Systematics celebrates fifth anniversary of successful management buyout

Specialist data collection company Systematics International Limited is looking to the future as it celebrates five years since a successful buyout by its current management team.

The firm, which is based in Battlesbridge, Essex, collects market data for manufacturers of agricultural, construction, material handling and mobile crane equipment all over the world, with high profile clients include digger giant JCB and tractor and farm machinery manufacturer s such as CNH, Claas, John Deere and other prominent manufacturers.

Systematics is run by husband and wife team Christine and Manuel Bhatt, who are Chief Executive and Chief Finance and Strategic Planning Officer, respectively. The firm, which specialised in processing UK agricultural registration data, can trace its roots back to 1972, with Christine joining as Business Development Manager in 2000, being promoted to Managing Director three years later after successfully doubling the company’s turnover.

In 2007, parent company Metal Bulletin (MB) Group was bought out by an international publishing group, whose core business activities did not match those of Systematics. With this in mind, Christine led a management buyout of Systematics, enabling her to continue focusing on the agricultural sector. .

Christine said: “The first few years were tough. In addition to the logistics of moving to new business premises and implementing new systems, the UK was also suffering from the economic downturn which would later become the recession. Also, because we were smaller now and independent of the bigger group, we had to reassure multinational clients that we could deliver the service they required.” .

Five years later, the management buyout has proven to be a huge success, with financial stability. Manuel, who had previously worked as Chief Finance Officer at a private hospital, came on board in August 2012 to help take the business forward and ensure long term business sustainability. .

Christine and Manuel are now looking to the future, with plans to expand into new markets, in terms of both sector and geography. .

Manuel said: “The plan is to grow the company over the next 2 to 3 years. In order to do that, we need to tap into new markets and new countries. One of our goals is to establish overseas offices.” .

Christine said: “Our skills in processing different types of data can be transferred across different sectors, so we are always looking for new opportunities to grow the company.” .

International Shipments Exchange conference a success

Systematics held its autumn International Shipments Exchange conference in Chelmsford, attended by clients from countries such as the USA, France, Italy and Germany.

The conference, held over two days in October, provided an opportunity to discuss topical issues, as well showcasing some of the new services and products that Systematics will be launching over the coming months.

The events are held twice a year – in spring and autumn – with May 2012’s conference took place in Vienna. Next year’s events will be hosted by John Deere, based in Mannheim in Germany.

Systematics CEO Christine Bhatt said: “We had excellent feedback from clients who found the event interesting and informative. We are now looking forward to the next conference.”

Smooth launch for new IT infrastructure

Clients of Systematics will have noticed that the way they receive data is now quicker and more efficient.

This is because Systematics upgraded its IT infrastructure across all its data exchanges in September.

Not only is the new system quicker and more secure, it also looks better visually too.

CEO Christine Bhatt said: “We are particularly pleased with how smoothly the upgrade went. We switched straight from one infrastructure to another, meaning that there was no downtime, so no time lost and no inconvenience to our clients. The feedback we have received so far has been extremely positive.”

Registration data service to be extended

Systematics has announced that it will be extending its registration data service in the New Year.

At present, the company collects this data for the Western European market. The data enables manufacturers of tractors and other agricultural machinery to see where parts or products have gone once they have been sold.

From early next year, this service will be extended to include Eastern Europe too.

Systematics CEO Christine Bhatt said: “This will be good news for clients who want to target both the Western and Eastern European markets, as they will be able to access the data they need in order to do so. We will have this service up and running in early 2013.”
